Personal:
Welcome to my page and thank you for allowing me to serve the Davidson Elementary School community! As you get to know me you will quickly realize that I am relationship driven and while I love to celebrate professional success, my family is what I am most proud of. My husband Alex and I have been married for almost 17 years. Alex is also an educator and works at Mallard Creek High School where he is the Health/PE Department Chair and football coach. I am the mom of two boys, Jacob and Jay. Jacob is a 6th grader at Bailey Middle and Jay will continue to attend Davidson this year! Both of my boys are active, social, funny young men who love sports and play as many as our schedule allows! Most of our extended family lives outside of NC (we have family in Ohio, West Virginia, South Carolina, Florida, Kentucky, Texas, Tennessee, New York, Virginia and even in England). We are lucky to have a great group of friends in North Carolina that are like family! When I am not at school I love to travel to the beach, read, and hang out with our friends and family.

Educational Career:
I have had the opportunity to serve students in North Carolina public schools for the past 16 years. I began my career in 2002 when I moved to North Carolina from Ohio and began teaching mathematics at AL Brown High School in Kannapolis, NC. During this time, I taught a variety of courses and began serving the school community in limited leadership roles. In 2004, I was given the opportunity to move to Kannapolis Middle School as the Algebra 1 Lead teacher where I began working with teachers to focus on data driven instruction, common assessments, and team planning. In 2007, I had yet another opportunity to move back to AL Brown working with a small PLC where we together developed common assessments and began tracking student data. In 2011 I made the jump from Kannapolis City Schools to Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools. I worked 4 years at Mallard Creek High School where I served students as a teacher, department chair, and mathematics facilitator. During my time at Mallard Creek, I worked with PLC members as we aligned and unpacked curriculum, developed common assessments, tracked student data, and focused on mastery learning and student growth. In 2014, I was nominated for the Aspiring High School Principals cohort and began my work towards a Master’s Degree in School Administration. When I completed that degree, I immediately began working towards a Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership at UNCC.

Philosophy of Education:
I believe that all students can grow, learn, and succeed. Providing students with an atmosphere where they are valued, safe, and encouraged to step out of their comfort zone and try new things without fear of failure is the key to student growth. I believe that learning is done on a continuum and that providing students with multiple opportunities to show that they have mastered learning targets allows students the safe environment needed to explore and excel. Finally, I believe that students should be partners in their own education. This partnership between student, home, and school is essential to student growth and success.

I am proud to be a member of the Davidson Elementary School community as Assistant Principal and can't look forward to continuing working with our students to help them to Discover, Explore, and Succeed!
